SPECIAL POWER FACTOR CORRECTION SYSTEMS FOR GEOGRAPHICAL AREAS WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES

In geographical areas where the ambient temperature reaches high levels, to ensure optimal operation, electrical equipment must be designed with special technical features. A concrete example of technological solutions suitable for operation in these areas are the special automatic power factor correction systems derived from the standard Multimatic FH30 series by the ICAR brand of Ortea.

A partner and distributor operating in the Middle East, a market highly attentive to the purchase of high-end products, manages a supply volume of about 250-300 units per year using this type of special technological solutions.

These automatic power factor correction systems are designed to operate without derating up to an ambient temperature of 52°C. This result is achieved through the careful selection of components, which ensure excellent performance even in the most challenging climatic conditions.

TECHNICAL FEATURES

The technical characteristics that enable these devices to operate in geographical areas with high temperatures are as follows:

  • Use of black-coloured three-phase capacitors: the black-painted capacitor casing, thanks to the black body theory, allows for better heat dissipation. Additionally, the choice to use three-phase capacitors results in simpler wiring and consequently more efficient maintenance.
  • Protection with automatic switch: each capacitor drawer is protected by a moulded case circuit breaker with a breaking capacity exceeding 50kA. This ensures effective protection in case of overload or short-circuit, ensuring safe and reliable operation.
  • High-performance cables: the power and auxiliary cables used are of the double insulation type 0.6/1kV, designed to operate up to a temperature of 90°C, well above the 70°C of cables normally used in equipment. This feature reduces cable overheating, increasing the overall system reliability.
  • Harmonic blocking reactors in H class: The blocking reactors are in H temperature class and tuned to 135Hz (p=13.7%). This technical detail is essential for the protection and efficiency of the equipment, reducing the risk of damage due to the possible presence of harmonic currents generated by non-linear loads.
  • Enhanced ventilation system: the ventilation system is equipped with a double air intake grille that ensures the maintenance of an appropriate operating temperature. This system allows for extending the lifespan of the components.
  • IP21/IP31 protection: achieved through the use of a pagoda that ensures protection in case of vertical water drops.

INTERNATIONAL CESI CERTIFICATION

These special automatic power factor correction systems have undergone type tests as per IEC 61921 standards at the independent IPH laboratory in Berlin, obtaining CESI certification. This certifies the excellence and compliance of the equipment with the most rigorous international standards.

RELIABLE POWER FACTOR CORRECTION SOLUTIONS

These reliable and technologically advanced solutions are specifically designed for customers operating in high-temperature environments. Thanks to careful design and high-quality components, these devices guarantee excellent and durable performance, fully meeting the specific needs of the Middle Eastern market.
