CUSTOMISED ISOLATION TRANSFORMERS FOR STATE-OF-THE-ART MODULAR DATA CENTRES

CUSTOMISED ISOLATION TRANSFORMERS FOR STATE-OF-THE-ART MODULAR DATA CENTRES

The first batch of a large order of 96 isolation transformers for Data Centres is ready.

These transformers, with special features, will be inserted into a modular and scalable hyperscale architecture for a Data Centre under construction in northern Italy.

The transformers supplied will be inserted as components of a switchboard to protect the UPSs present, electrically isolating the system and protecting it against possible overvoltages, overcurrents and harmonics.

CHALLENGES FACED

  • Definition of specifications in constant collaboration with the customer in order to meet the technical and performance requirements.
  • Limitation of the space available for installation and consequent study for sizing the equipment.
  • Maximum reduction of iron losses and no-load current typical for this type of application in which the transformer, being always powered, requires the minimisation of no-load losses.
  • High short-circuit current (Vdc=10%) which required the installation of an integrated reactor of complex dimensioning and production.
  • Short delivery times in relation to the required quantity.

In addition, a prototype was produced that underwent technical and functional tests (FAT) and was approved by the customer, allowing the entire order to proceed.

TECHNICAL FEATURES

The series of isolating transformers specifically designed and manufactured for this order has the following main technical characteristics:

  • Nominal Power: 800kVA
  • Frequency: 50Hz
  • Vector group: Dzn0
  • Input voltage: 400V
  • Output voltage: 400V @50% load
  • Primary side sockets: ±5%.
  • K factor: 9
  • Short-circuit voltage (Vcc%): 10%
  • Insulation class: H

With this supply, Ortea once again demonstrates its production and design capabilities by pursuing the end customer’s needs and supporting them during all phases of project implementation.
